Overview

Admission to the Hospital

During your pregnancy, you and your provider might determine you need an evaluation in our triage area or an admission to one of our hospital units, including Labor and Delivery, when you are in labor.

Once you have spoken with your doctor and it is determined that it's time to come to Prentice, your doctor will notify triage of your arrival. You will be directed to: Prentice Women’s Hospital located at 250 East Superior Street.

DO NOT go to the Emergency Department.

Remember to bring an ID and your insurance card. For more information, see What to Bring.

Admission for Labor

When you start labor, your hospital experience is about to begin. Talk to your provider ahead of time about when you should come to the hospital.

Admission for Induction

If needed, labor may be induced with medicine or other methods to bring on contractions of the uterus. This will start the birth process.

Admission for Cesarean Delivery

Cesarean delivery (“C-section”) is surgery that may be needed to deliver a baby through an incision in the mother's abdomen. Some patients will be scheduled by their provider to have a C-section before labor.

Admission for External Cephalic Version

If your baby is not head down during the last month of your pregnancy, your provider may discuss the External Cephalic Version (ECV) procedure with you as an option.
