Admission for Labor
Admission for Labor
Labor presents either with regular and painful uterine contractions or sometimes with your water breaking without contractions. When you first arrive at Prentice, you will be evaluated in triage. Our nurses will monitor your baby with a fetal monitor and a contraction monitor. They may also check how dilated your cervix is and do a speculum exam if your bag of water is broken. Our nurses will discuss your plan of care with your doctor. Some patients are not ready to be admitted and are advised to walk around or go home for a while longer. When it is time for you to be admitted, you will be transferred up to Labor and Delivery.
