Family Planning and DMTs

Family planning when you have MS requires special care. If you are thinking about getting pregnant, share your plans with your MS specialist. They will talk to you about fertility treatment and stopping birth control and DMT.

MS affects people differently. Your family planning details will depend on the traits of your disease and your care plan. Your clinician will tell you when to stop using birth control and when it is OK to start trying to get pregnant.

Pregnancy timing will be based on the type of DMT you take. Some DMTs need to be stopped months before you become pregnant. Some need to be switched for another treatment. Other DMTs can be stopped after you get pregnant. Some can be continued during pregnancy. The decision to continue DMT during pregnancy is made on an individual basis.
