Shared Leadership Model at Huntley Hospital
Nursing Shared Leadership Model supports participative decision-making by nurses at all levels within the region. The organized structure promotes nurse autonomy over clinical practice standards, quality improvement, staff and professional development, and research. Communication is multidirectional among bedside professional nurses, leadership, interprofessional teams, and the Chief Nurse Executives.
Nurse Executive Council
The purpose of the Nurse Executive Council is to provide guidance to all shared leadership committees, sub-committees and taskforces to ensure goal accomplishment and alignment with the overarching NM strategic plan.
The NWR Nursing Strategic Roadmap provides all key stakeholders with a blueprint to advance understanding of the connection between the work of the NWR’s Nursing Shared Leadership Committees and the local and national agenda healthcare. The Nurse Executive Council facilitates and champions the coordination and cooperation between shared leadership committees at all levels of the organization. The Nurse Executive Council is led by the NWR’s Chief Nurse Executives.
Nursing Leadership Council
The purpose of the Nursing Leadership Council is to cascade information and provide guidance to nursing leadership to ensure department goal accomplishment is consistent with the NM Strategic Plan and NWR Strategic Roadmap.
This council fosters the advancement of understanding of the connection between the work of NWR Shared Leadership Committees and the local and national agenda for healthcare. This group facilitates coordination and cooperation among shared leadership committees at all levels of the organization. Committee is led by the site specific Chief Nurse Executive.
Nursing Research & Evidence-Based Practice Committee
The purpose of the Nursing Research & Evidence-Based Practice Committee is to advance nursing research and evidence-based practice projects across the NWR. Advancement of research is accomplished through education, mentoring, and the development of effective processes and support structures. This committee also approves all nursing principal investigator candidates and makes recommendations to the Chief Nurse Executives for additional research. Committee members review and approve all research proposals conducted by nurses or involve nurses as research subjects.
Nursing Professional Development Committee
The purpose of the Nursing Professional Development Committee is to advance professional development. Members of this council promote ongoing lifelong learning through a variety of diverse venues for all nurses. Programs include attainment of professional certification as well as academic advancement through accredited higher learning institutions.
Professional development of nurses is also encouraged through forging mentoring relationships, memberships in professional organizations and engagement in volunteering for non-profit organizations. Members of this council also develop programs, initiatives and events to advance and showcase the profession of nurses.
Nursing Clinical Informatics
The purpose of the Nursing Clinical Informatics is to advance nursing informatics projects across the region through education, mentoring, and the development of effective processes and support structures. This group ensures alignment with NM clinical informatics.
Nursing Practice & Quality Committee
The purpose of the Nursing Quality and Practice Committee is to oversee nursing practice to ensure the delivery of safe, high quality, and evidence-based care. The work of this committee supports and is in full alignment with the NWR’s Professional Practice Model.
Committee members monitor quality and nurse-sensitive metrics; recommend evidence-based best practice changes to meet goals; support nursing taskforces developed to advance specific strategic goals. Their work includes the bi-annual review and contribution to the organization’s staffing plan to ensure ongoing compliance with, “Staffing by Patient Acuity” complying with the state of Illinois Legislation.
Night Shift Council
The purpose of the Night Shift Council is to advance night shift nursing engagement across the NWR through education, mentoring, and the development of effective processes and support structures. The Night Shift Council facilitate the cascading of vital information from all councils.
Unit-Based Councils: Patient and Employee Outcomes
The purpose of unit-based councils are: to monitor unit performance, develop and implement plans to achieve annual goals, identify strategies to provide efficiencies around unit-based supplies (appropriateness and availability); and advance interdisciplinary teamwork activities on the unit to advance employee engagement.
The process improvement model used for the Unit-Based Councils is the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) framework. This evidence-based model is in alignment with the NM improvement system and provides structure to unit-based process improvement activities.
Nursing Quality Peer Review Sub-Committee
The purpose of the Nursing Peer Review Sub-Committee is to empower clinical nurses who exhibit best practices to identify and address gaps in quality care; identify opportunities for advancing the quality of nursing care and documentation in the NWR; and provide professional development for all parties involved in the review process.
Magnet Subcommittee
The purpose of the Magnet Subcommittee is to engage clinical nurses in the journey to Magnet.
