Corneal Dystrophy Treatments

The exact treatment your physician recommends depends on the severity of your symptoms. Treatments include:

• Medications: Eye drops and ointments can reduce swelling and minimize pain.
• Contact lenses: Special soft lenses can smooth the corneal surface for better vision and pain relief.
• Laser therapy: Your physician can use lasers to remove corneal erosions and other abnormalities of the corneal surface.
• Surgery: A surgeon can either replace the inner layer of your cornea or the entire cornea. In both cases, the healthy corneal tissue is transplanted from a donor.
