Symptoms of Gastroparesis
Symptoms of gastroparesis may vary from one patient to the next, or may come and go in mild cases. Symptoms may include:
- Nausea
- Vomiting (as often as every day)
- Feeling full after eating a small amount
- Abdominal pain
- Bloating
- Heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Loss of appetite and weight loss
- Difficulty managing blood sugar levels (in diabetics)
In some cases, delayed digestion can lead to these complications:
- Excessive bacteria in the stomach
- Bezoars, or solid masses of old food, that can cause vomiting, pain and blockages that prevent food from entering the intestine
- Dehydration from frequent vomiting
