Symptoms of Esophageal Varices

There may be no symptoms of esophageal varices until they rupture. Seek medical attention immediately if you have these symptoms:

  • Black, tarry or bloody stools
  • Bloody vomit
  • Fainting or feeling lightheaded from blood loss
  • Symptoms of liver disease, including:
    • Jaundice (yellow skin and eyes)
    • Frequent bruising or bleeding
    • Abdominal fluid buildup
