What to Expect During and After Your Lung Cancer Screening

The CT scan itself is brief and requires no special preparation.

  • The CT technologist will help you practice taking deep breaths.
  • You will lie down on the CT scan table on your back.
  • You will simply take a few deep breaths when instructed as the technologist captures images in the CT machine.

After the exam is completed, one of our radiologists will interpret the examination, typically within 24 hours. The results will be sent to you and to your ordering physician.

After speaking with your ordering physician, if it is determined that follow-up by a specialist is necessary, we can expedite referrals to any of these Northwestern Medicine locations:
