Resident Rotations and On-Call Schedule

Typical Resident Rotations

Our three-year residency training program provides an excellent balance among inpatient, outpatient and procedural opportunities. Typical resident rotations are scheduled in two-month blocks, except where noted.

PGY2: Inpatient rotations

  • Stroke
  • Brain injury
  • Medically complex/neuromuscular
  • Musculoskeletal medicine
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Hines VA Hospital (Hines, IL)

PGY3: Rotations

  • Pediatrics: Inpatient and outpatient
  • Outpatient musculoskeletal and sports medicine
  • Outpatient interventional pain
  • Hines VA: Electrodiagnostic medicine (EMG) and outpatient musculoskeletal clinic
  • Hines VA: Interventional pain
  • Elective

PGY4: Rotations

  • Outpatient rehabilitation clinics (three months)
  • EMG
  • Lovell Federal Health Care Center EMG Medicine and Outpatient Clinics
  • Hines VA: General outpatient clinics
  • Senior inpatient selective (one month)
  • Prosthetics and orthotics Clinic (one month)
  • Consults (one month)

Typical Resident On-Call Schedule

All residents are assigned to in-house on-call duties following ACGME requirements. No resident is on-call more than once every third night. A typical on-call schedule might be as follows:

  • PGY2: Approximately four times per month
  • PGY3: Approximately two times per month
  • PGY4: Approximately once per month
