Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP)

SUDEP stands for sudden unexpected death in epilepsy. This is the sudden death of a person with epilepsy who is otherwise healthy, and no clear cause of death is found. Not all deaths in people with epilepsy are SUDEP.

SUDEP is relatively rare. Many people with epilepsy lead full and fulfilling lives. However, regular visits with your neurologist will help you get care and information tailored to your specific needs.
