Symptoms of ulcerative colitis vary from person to person and from one day to another, as remission and flare-ups are common. Symptoms may include:
- Frequent diarrhea
- Blood and pus in stools
- Fecal urgency
- A feeling that the bowels haven’t emptied completely
- Abdominal pain and cramping
- Rectal pain and bleeding
- Anemia (lack of healthy red blood cells)
- Severe fatigue
- Loss of appetite and weight loss
- Skin sores
- Joint pain
- Failure to thrive in children
