Internships and Externships
Interested in a career in healthcare and looking for meaningful work to round out your studies? Spend your summer with us! The Northwestern Medicine Internship & Externship Programs provides both clinical and non-clinical opportunities for promising undergraduate and graduate students.
The IS Internship Program is designed to expose interns to the different roles in healthcare IT. Our program allows for interns to use their classroom knowledge and apply that knowledge in a workplace setting. We want to make sure that not only are interns learning and applying skills, they are also building relationships that will span the rest of their careers.

8 week paid program during which student nurses partner with a nurse preceptor to develop critical thinking skills, hone technical skills and learn how to prioritize care.
10-12 week paid experience that provides Graduate students exposure to Hospital Operations.
10 week paid experience that provides Law School students exposure to Healthcare Supply Chain operations and the contracts and negotiations pertaining to such operations.
10-12 week paid experience for both Undergraduate and Graduate students interested in IS as a career.
8-12 week paid experience that provides College students exposure to Healthcare as a Patient Access Intern.
Summer internship for undergraduates interested in medicine where they participate in clinical observation, work on faculty-led sponsored projects, and engage in educational seminars in a premier academic medical center.
8 week paid program during which students interested in pursuing a career as a Physician Assistant are assigned a clinical project and complete multiple shadowing opportunities in the hospital and clinic settings.
8 week paid experience that provides Undergraduate students exposure to the Social Determinants of Health.
8 week paid program where student nurses assist in the delivery of both direct and indirect nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse within the scope of practice of unlicensed, assistive personnel.
Minimum 8 week paid program during which student nurses partner with a nurse preceptor to develop critical thinking skills, hone technical skills and learn how to prioritize care.
8-week paid experience that provides Undergraduate students experience working in Supply Chain in a Healthcare environment.
Information Services Internship
Our internship program provides a unique opportunity for students to learn how technology plays an integral role within the healthcare industry. We offer a 10-12 week paid experience for degree seeking students of any level interested in IS as a career. Students will be exposed to the functions of IS while working alongside and learning from our technology professionals.

Allied Health Radiology Internship
8 week paid program that exposes students to Allied Health. Position presents a valuable opportunity for individuals seeking exposure to a variety of Allied Healthcare fields, while gaining learning experience within a premier academic medical center. Students will be assigned duties and tasks that will expose them to various aspects of hospital Allied Health fields, rotating through modalities such as Diagnostic Imaging, CT, MRI, Mammography, Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine.
