If Your Care Team Needs to See Medical Images Taken Outside of Northwestern Medicine

Use this information if you have medical images from an office outside of Northwestern Medicine and your care team wants to see them. If you need help uploading your images or have questions about your MyNM account, call the MyNM Help Desk at 855.HLP.MYNM (855.457.6966, TTY: 711).
What are medical images?

Medical images are pictures taken of the inside of your body to diagnose, monitor or treat medical conditions. Common imaging tests include:

  • X-rays
  • Mammograms
  • Ultrasounds
  • MRIs
How do I upload medical images?

You can upload your medical imaging to your MyNM account. The “How to Upload Imaging in MyNM” guide provides step-by-step instructions to upload the images from a computer.

What type of imaging can I upload into MyNM?

Please confirm what images your care team wants you to share before you upload. You can upload the following images:

  • X-rays
  • CT/CTA
  • MRI
  • Ultrasound
  • Mammography
  • DEXA/Bone Density Scan
  • PET scan
  • Nuclear medicine
  • Interventional procedures
  • Angiogram
  • Cardiac catheterization
  • Echocardiogram
    • Can I upload medical images using a smartphone?
      No, you can only upload from a computer.
      Where do I find the MyNM patient portal?
      Go to mynm.nm.org. At the sign-in page, enter your MyNM username and password if you have an account. If you do not, follow the instructions to sign up. 
      I cannot remember my NM username and/or password. What should I do?
      If you forgot your username or password, use the prompts on the MyNM login page to reset your information. To learn more about this, see the MyNM Frequently Asked Questions.
      Why does my care team need these images?

      Sharing your medical images lets your care team:

      • Compare new images with older medical images to see if anything has changed
      • Monitor conditions and abnormalities over time
      • Avoid repeating tests you've already had

      Reviewing your medical images with your care team may help you better understand your condition and participate in your care.

      What is medical imaging?
      Medical images are pictures taken of the inside of your body to diagnose, monitor or treat medical conditions. Common imaging tests are X-rays, mammograms, ultrasounds and MRIs.
      When will my care team review my medical imaging?
      Your care team will review your imaging before and/or during your visit.
      What internet browsers can I use? 
      The upload will work best if you use Chrome, Edge or Firefox internet browsers.
      How large of a file can the medical imaging be?
      There is no file size limit.
      How will you protect my information?
      Like all health information, your medical images are confidential and protected by law. If you are younger than 18, your parent/guardian may have access to this information. In addition, anyone with proxy access to your medical records may have access as well. If you have any concerns, talk to a member of your care team.
      Who will see this information?
      Your care team will review your medical imaging. It will become part of your electronic health record. If you have concerns or questions, please ask a member of your care team.
      Can I bring imaging on a CD or thumb drive, or have the images sent to you directly?
      Yes, you may bring your imaging in to us or have the other office send it to us. Be sure to sign a consent form at the other office to give permission for them to send us your imaging.
      How do I convert images that are on a CD or thumb drive?
      You can either upload your images in MyNM or bring the CD or thumb drive to your next visit. You do not need to change the file format.
