3.0 star star star star_border star_borderIt is a hour plus drive for me. I try to make all appointments on the same day. I was coming from 1 appointment to go to his. Notified in advance that it was a back to back appointment. I was told his 15 minute late policy. Luckily I got out of the 1st appointment early and got to his appointment 5 minutes early. But didn't get called back until 20 minutes after my appointment time.

5.0 star star star star starHe is the best doctor I've had. He is attentive, a great listener and explainer, and seems to actually care about his patients. He's also just a great doctor. Resourceful in his treatment methods and willing to explore options while being clear about his limitations. I have already recommended him to several family members.

5.0 star star star star starI have been waiting for 3 nightmarish years with a hip injury. my past g.p. till last week said that my p.t. had not recommended a scsn. Aftrr some looking into it and finding my own copy of the report, i found that it was in fact in her report. I felt medically gaslit. I talked to dr mathen and he didnt dismiss me. Whats to dismiss? Im using a walker because of this injury. It feels good to b listened to by my doctor

5.0 star star star star starThe Dr himself gave recommendations to have personal NutrEval, accupuncture, as alternative methods to approach issues he faces. Today received accupunture that was very helpful in releasing muscle tightness and stress. Dr also is actively engaging with issues with methods that really help.

5.0 star star star star starDr. Mathen is a truly kind and thoughtful person, who genuinely listens. He is a well rounded practitioner of medicine, who treats the cause of the symptom as much as the symptom itself with a broad view of how to alleviate the problem.

1.0 star star_border star_border star_border star_borderI met Shuan for the first time yesterday. My initial assessment is I believe I'm really going to like having him as my doctor. Very easy to talk to and I appreciate his views on the holistic side of care. I think we will have a great doctor/patient relationship. I told my wife I was happy to have him. I have some testing to do. We'll see how things go with this initial appointment before I give a rating.

2.0 star star star_border star_border star_borderHe doesn’t explain how to implement changes in lifestyle. He hands you print outs and tells you to read over them. He told me that I needed to fast for a 36 hr time frame once per week but didn’t tell me “how†and only gave me a handout. He never asked how I was when he entered the room. How to do not assess where you patient currently is when you walk into a treatment room. I had to do a food journal for 14 days and when I went to hand it to him he told me he didn’t need it. He then went on and asked me to calculate the percentages of food categories that I ate. I felt like I was back in high school, being graded and judged by a teacher. He definitely maintains and instills a feeling a superiority over his patients.

5.0 star star star star starHe is very thorough in his approach to care. After my diagnosis of diabetes, my endocrinologist asked me to find a medical provider. After my due diligence, I found Dr. Mathen. He is helping me to heal my body from the inside out. My diabetic medication has been reduced and I will be joining the gym for the 8-week class to help improve my mobility and strengthening of my body.

3.0 star star star star_border star_borderHe seemed very distracted during the appointment. Didn’t really explain what he was doing and why. He did explain the testing. But I didn’t get any information on my diagnosis. He also walked out while talking and then came back after a few minutes and said goodbye. I had to ask the medical assistant my follow up questions and she had to explain things that I needed to do and why, such as food journaling.

3.0 star star star star_border star_borderI wish I would have been told he was Holistic AND I'd have to pay out of pocket for all my testing as I'm on welfare and will have to save a VERY long time for these tests and I'm not sure the cure/or care afterwards will be covered.

5.0 star star star star starHe is an excellent doctor. He help me with my thyroid, put me on armor thyroid medicine and it helped me tremendously when I ask him a question he’s right on top of it and answers me and tells me Connie this is what you do now try this and let me know how it works. He is an excellent doctor I recommend him to everyone.

5.0 star star star star starDr. Mathen is fantastic for me. He is pleasant, reasonable, well-informed, and happy to share his knowledge and the reasoning behind his philosophy of care—something I don't always find in a doctor. He takes the time to learn about you, and then make a logical suggestion, backed up by evidence and science.

External Professional Relationships
Pharmaceutical, device, and biotechnology companies frequently collaborate with basic scientists and physicians within an academic medical center to help advance science and improve patient care. These relationships are important in achieving scientific breakthroughs and in establishing the effectiveness and safety of promising new therapies. In order to assure objectivity in clinical research and patient care, the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (Feinberg), Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, Children's Hospital of Chicago Medical Center, and the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab have adopted integrity policies that require research and clinical faculty (in full-time, part-time, and unpaid/voluntary categories) to report compensated and uncompensated external industry relationships. Patients are encouraged to discuss these disclosures with their physician as well as to inquire as to how these relationships are overseen by Feinberg.
