5.0 star star star star starHe is one of the greatest doctors I’ve encountered at Northwestern. (Dr [ ] is another one). He’s an expert in his field, extremely knowledgeable and current, grounded, curious and passionate about his field and compassionate with his patients. His thorough, collaborative and down to earth approach is always a breath of fresh air. He gets his patients - something you don’t see doctors bother doing very often, if at all.. I’ve had other doctors that are just interested in checking the boxes on their checklists and rushing through their appointments. I’ve often walked away without many takeaways from such appointments. And I get billed for them nonetheless..Dr Macken is the real deal. I trust and respect him and wish more doctors were like him.

5.0 star star star star star-handle on meds, -brings forth professional urging when needed, -allows for discussion of meds and his reasons. -wiling to get in the weeds. -will always try to talk to [first name] first (though she doesn't always respond back)

5.0 star star star star starI have known Dr Macken for almost 20 years. I followed him from Loyola Medical center to Northwestern Medicine. I have been seizure free for 18 of those years. I cannot stress how important he has been during this journey.

5.0 star star star star starBecause he’s one of 2 doctors that’s taken me away from being frustrated depressed, and after 7 years of double vision because of all the medication that they had me on and since I’ve been with Dr Macken after 2 visits he’s reduced my medications and now my double vision is gone, I wish I could have known about Dr Macken along time ago lol

5.0 star star star star starAfter multiple years of being ignored with Dupage Medical Group, I was close to giving up but decided to try something different one last time and went to Northwestern… with every single person I talked to at Northwestern Medicine, I have felt heard and taken care of. They have empathy, they listen, and they truly want to help. Dr. Macken was so kind that I left his office crying with relief.

5.0 star star star star starI just met with Dr. Macken and I feel I understand my sons [ ] diagnosis and his EEG reading SO much better now. Dr. Macken really took time to go thru the various test results and explain how it manifests and what he is trying to do with the prescribed drugs. I never felt rushed and left feeling much better than before.

External Professional Relationships
Pharmaceutical, device, and biotechnology companies frequently collaborate with basic scientists and physicians within an academic medical center to help advance science and improve patient care. These relationships are important in achieving scientific breakthroughs and in establishing the effectiveness and safety of promising new therapies. In order to assure objectivity in clinical research and patient care, the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine (Feinberg), Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, Children's Hospital of Chicago Medical Center, and the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab have adopted integrity policies that require research and clinical faculty (in full-time, part-time, and unpaid/voluntary categories) to report compensated and uncompensated external industry relationships. Patients are encouraged to discuss these disclosures with their physician as well as to inquire as to how these relationships are overseen by Feinberg.
