Overview
What Is an Enlarged Prostate?
The prostate is a small gland, found just below the bladder, that’s involved in the creation of semen. Almost all men experience an enlarged prostate gland—also called benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH—as they get older. In fact, more than 90 percent of men over 80 years of age have it.
As the prostate gland grows, it can put pressure on the urethra, causing problems with the bladder and with urination.
Treatment for enlarged prostate depends on the severity of symptoms experienced. Your physician can help guide you through this process.
