Dermal transplant is procedure in which small pieces of healthy skin are placed under a scar to elevate the depressed skin and create a smoother appearance.

Smooth, healthy skin is often taken from behind the ear so it is a close match for facial skin. A tiny incision is made in the scar to allow for implantation of the healthy skin cells.

Dermal transplants may be effective for patients with disfiguring acne scars.
