Functional MRI
During a functional MRI, you will be asked to perform simple tasks while the MRI of your brain is being done. As you do the tasks, such as tapping your foot, moving your hand or repeating words, the MRI image will show which portions of your brain are being activated to allow you to perform those tasks. By looking at which parts of your brain are activating, we can see which parts of your brain control your movements and your language.
How to prepare for a functional MRI
Prior to the exam, you will need to complete the MRI safety questionnaire as directed by the facility. The morning of the functional MRI, take your medications as directed. There are no restrictions on eating or drinking prior to the exam. During the test, you will be instructed on the functional tasks to perform.
