Arterial Blood Gas Test
An arterial blood gas test checks the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in your blood and measures your blood’s acidity. The test tells your physician:
- If oxygen therapy is needed
- How well current oxygen therapy is working
- How well your lungs and kidneys are functioning
During this test, a small vial of blood will be taken from an artery in your wrist. This differs from other blood tests, which typically take blood from a vein.
