Endocrine Surgery Overview

Northwestern Medicine aims to provide a minimally-invasive solution to each patient's medical condition. The majority of patients who require endocrine surgery will qualify for minimally invasive procedures, such as:

• Minimally-invasive parathyroid surgery (including surgery under local or twilight anesthesia for selected patients)
• Minimal-incision thyroidectomy (removal of the thyroid)
• Laparoscopic adrenalectomy (removal of adrenal glands)

In addition, we are involved in multiple clinical research projects to continuously improve the way that we treat endocrine surgical problems.

To prepare for your first visit to Northwestern Medicine Endocrine Surgery:

• Complete the Endocrine Surgery Patient and Symptom Form and the Patient Health History Form. Please bring these completed documents to your first visit.
• Please fax all medical documents (operation reports, lab results, radiology reports) pertaining to your current diagnosis to us at 312.472.0625. These documents should be faxed well in advance of your appointment so we may review them prior to your visit. If you are unable to fax them, please bring them with you to your appointment.
• Request copies of all medical images (ultrasounds, X-rays, CT scans) pertaining to your diagnosis and bring them to your first appointment.
• If your insurance requires a referral, please obtain one from your primary care physician before your first visit.
• Make a list of questions that you wish to ask our surgeons and nurses. If you do this in advance, it will help prevent you from forgetting important questions.
• Please bring your insurance card, a list of medications that you are taking and the contact information of the physician who referred you.
