What to Expect

At your first visit, we will talk with you to better understand your medical history and current symptoms.

You can expect to:

  • See a lupus specialist.
  • Review your medical history.
  • Complete a physical exam.
  • Complete any necessary laboratory tests or imaging.
  • Discuss next steps, including treatment options and managing your symptoms.
  • Explore if you are a candidate for a research study or clinical trial in your disease. Participation is optional, and we will explain what that would involve.

Lupus Research Team

Our research team works to advance the understanding of lupus. This can help us improve health outcomes and find new treatment options. We’ve made many discoveries and advances, which highlight the commitment and dedication of our program and team members.

Our patients can enroll in research studies, clinical trials and Northwestern Medicine’s Chicago Lupus Database. The database is a registry of people with lupus who want to be contacted about future research studies they may be eligible for.
