Osteochondritis Dissecans

Osteochondritis dissecans is a joint condition that occurs when the bone underneath the cartilage of a joint dies because of lack of blood flow. The bone and cartilage can break loose, causing pain and possible hindering of joint motion. The condition mainly occurs within the knee, but can also affect elbows, ankles and other joints. It is most common in children and teens who are active in sports.
