Founded in 1964, we are proud to have performed more than 10,000 solid organ transplants. Our long history of better care means you can count on our team of experts at every step — before, during and after your transplant. This dedication is reflected in our outcomes.
Each year, we perform hundreds of life-saving transplants. Northwestern Medicine Organ Transplant Center is Illinois’ top program and No. 8 nationally in the number of transplants performed, per the United Network for Organ Sharing, 2023.
We have the most transplant recipients in the world who no longer need antirejection medications, meaning they can enjoy a better quality of life. In addition, we meet or exceed national averages for success rates one year after transplant.
We conduct research to help make this level of excellent care possible. More than $10 million in federal funding supports our research and clinical trials. Our research areas include immune tolerance and state-of-the-art genomic and proteomic immune monitoring. This means you will have access to breakthrough care and innovative treatments that aren’t widely available.
Patients from around the world have trusted us with their transplant care. We’re here for you, no matter where you are in your transplant journey.
