Provoked Epileptic Seizures

Provoked Epileptic Seizures

If you’ve had a seizure, it doesn’t mean you have epilepsy. It’s possible that the event was not an epileptic seizure at all, or it may have been provoked by something else.

Many disorders associated with epileptic seizures exist that aren’t considered epilepsy. These seizures are triggered by a disorder or a condition that irritates the brain, such as an infection, a stroke, a head injury or a reaction to a drug. In children, a fever can trigger what’s called a febrile seizure.

If you have experienced a seizure, you’ll need to work with your physician to help determine whether you have epilepsy or another form of seizure disorder.
