Symptoms of a Skull Base Tumor

The symptoms of most skull base tumors typically appear only after the tumor has grown, causing pressure on vital structures in the brain such as the pituitary gland, the optic nerve and the carotid arteries. Symptoms that may indicate a possible cranial base tumor include:

  • Headaches or dizziness
  • Tinnitus (ringing in the ear)
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Altered sense of smell
  • Blurred or double vision
  • Trouble swallowing
  • Hearing loss

Other symptoms may include loss of balance, nausea, vomiting and memory loss.
