Diagnosis

Diagnosis of Low Grade Glioma

Better treatment starts with a fast, accurate diagnosis. To diagnose a low grade glioma, your physician may recommend several tests and procedures, including:

  • A neurological exam to check your cognition, speech, strength, coordination, dexterity, vision, and balance.
  • Imaging tests such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), functional MRI (fMRI), or DTI (diffusion tensor imaging), which help localize the tumor and planning for treatment.
  • Surgery: To determine the specific type of tumor, a sample is needed. Often, the surgeon will take out the maximum amount of tumor as safely as possible. The neurosurgeon uses advanced imaging and operative techniques to achieve the best surgery for you.
