Symptoms of Diverticular Disease
Diverticulosis usually has no symptoms. Some patients may experience bloating, constipation and mild cramping, but these can also be symptoms of a variety of intestinal disorders.
Symptoms of diverticulitis include:
- Abdominal pain
- Tenderness on the left side of the lower belly
- Fever and chills (if infection is present)
- Constipation
Complications of diverticular disease include:
- Infection
- Intestinal blockages
- Bleeding
- Diverticular colitis (inflammation of the colon)
- Tears in the colon
