Symptoms of Diverticular Disease

Diverticulosis usually has no symptoms. Some patients may experience bloating, constipation and mild cramping, but these can also be symptoms of a variety of intestinal disorders.

Symptoms of diverticulitis include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Tenderness on the left side of the lower belly
  • Fever and chills (if infection is present)
  • Constipation

Complications of diverticular disease include:

  • Infection
  • Intestinal blockages
  • Bleeding
  • Diverticular colitis (inflammation of the colon)
  • Tears in the colon
