Symptoms of Vocal Cord Paralysis
Vocal fold paralysis can cause a variety of symptoms affecting breathing, swallowing and speaking. Depending on whether the vocal cord is stuck open or stuck closed, symptoms may include:
- Change in vocal tone and volume
- Breathy or weak voice
- Hoarseness
- Noisy breathing
- Shortness of breath
- Weak cough
- Frequent throat clearing
- Choking
- Aspiration pneumonia
