Specialists and Care Centers
Sarcoma Specialists and Care Centers
Because sarcomas are rare, it is important to find a physician who has experience working with this disease. Research shows that treatment is more successful at major sarcoma centers. These centers have many sarcoma experts and specially trained clinicians.
Northwestern Medicine has physicians experienced at diagnosing and treating sarcomas. We conduct research on new treatments that are not widely available for sarcomas.
At Northwestern Medicine, your care team includes:
- Medical oncologists
- Radiation oncologists
- Surgeons
- Radiologists and Pathologists
- Nurses and nurse practitioners specially trained in cancer care
- Social workers
Your team may also include:
- A plastic or reconstructive surgeon
- A physical therapist
- A rehabilitation specialist
- Support staff for teenagers and children
Palliative Medicine
Palliative medicine specialists focus on helping you be comfortable so you can have a better quality of life.
Many sarcoma treatments have side effects that impact your quality of life. They can also affect your ability to respond to treatment. A palliative medicine care team can help you address these side effects and symptoms related to your disease.
Northwestern Medicine cancer centers have palliative medicine specialists who can help relieve your pain and manage your symptoms.
They can:
- Treat pain and other physical symptoms of cancer, such as:
- Fatigue
- Nausea
- Trouble sleeping
- Not feeling hungry
- Trouble breathing
- Weight loss and/or poor appetite
- Treat emotional symptoms, such as depression and anxiety
- Help you better tolerate cancer treatments
- Help you understand tests, procedures and treatment options
- Share resources with you and those who care for you
