Overview

What are Congenital Anomalies of the Bladder and Genitalia?

A congenital anomaly is an anatomic variation present at birth that can cause health problems or affect how the body works.

Congenital anomalies often affect the reproductive and urinary systems, which include the internal and external reproductive (sex) organs, urinary bladder, urethra, ureter and kidney.

Many women are born with anomalies or variations of the GU system, and although their organs develop differently, these organs may still be effective for reproduction. Sometimes women don’t even have any associated symptoms, and their anomalies can go largely unnoticed for a portion of time.
