Dorsal Root Ganglion Stimulation
Dorsal root ganglion stimulation is a newer and, in some ways, more refined and specific way to stimulate certain nerves to decrease pain. In some cases, it can be more effective than spinal cord stimulation.
It can help you manage difficult-to-treat chronic pain in the legs, ankles or feet due to:
- Complex regional pain syndrome
- Inguinal hernia surgery
- Knee replacement
- Amputation surgery
The treatment involves a small electrode placed directly on a spinal nerve. An electric current is delivered to the target tissue. Like spinal cord stimulation, your physician would do a short-term trial before implanting the device for long-term use.
