What Is a Bullectomy?

Bullectomy, sometimes called blebectomy, is a procedure to remove parts of the lung that are non-functioning because of giant bullae, or holes. These empty spaces in the lung are a complication of emphysema and substantially reduce the amount of space available for the lung to expand.

Infection and pneumothorax (collapsed lung) can be a complication of bullae in the lung. The removal of a bullae will help your lung function better.
