Our mission at the Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital Pre-operative Clinic is to make sure every patient is prepared for surgery or any procedure that requires anesthesia.
Our team will:
- Review your medical record
- Make sure the right tests are done
- Coordinate the steps needed to confirm that you are ready for surgery
- Make sure your surgeon and anesthesia care team have all necessary information on the day of your surgery
For your convenience, we manage all of your health information and any pre-procedure testing in one location.
What to Bring to Your Pre-operative Clinic Visit
- Your current medical insurance card
- Medicare card (if you have Medicare)
- A government-issued photo ID
- Advance directives, if you have them
- Any necessary referrals
- A complete, up-to-date list of all current medications, herbal supplements and over-the-counter medications (or all your medication bottles) with the following information:
- How much of the medication you take
- How often you take the medication
- The reason you take the medication
- Medical records, if you have them, including:
- Lab test results
- Stress test results
- Sleep studies
- Recent notes from your primary care physician or cardiologist
Preparing for Your Appointment at the Pre-operative Clinic
You may eat, drink and take your medications on your normal schedule before your exam or testing unless your surgeon tells you something different. Your visit at the clinic will last 1 or 2 hours depending on which tests you need.
On the day of your visit, you will get detailed information on:
- How to prepare for your surgery, including medication and diet instructions
- What to expect the day before your surgery
- What to expect the morning of your surgery
