Preparing for Surgery
A child life specialist dedicated to pediatric surgery helps normalize the hospital experience for children undergoing minor and complex surgeries through use of medical play and other techniques. A child life specialist will work with your child and family to use pain and anxiety-reduction approaches for wound care and other surgical procedures.
A virtual “Pre-op Adventure Tour” will help alleviate any fears that you, your child or other family members may have about surgery. The tour helps children feel more at ease, and gives you the opportunity to view the surgical areas before the day of surgery. For details, please contact the child life office at 630.933.PLAY (7529).
