Advanced Stroke Accreditation
Northwestern Medicine offers eight hospitals accredited by The Joint Commission as providing advanced levels of stroke care, including two Comprehensive Stroke Centers.
That means when you arrive at one of these Northwestern Medicine locations, you will benefit from having a highly specialized, comprehensive team ready to care for you the moment you arrive.
Comprehensive Stroke Centers meet standards to treat the most complex stroke cases. This includes 24/7 access to surgical intervention that may be needed for certain types of stroke.
For a hospital to be a designated Comprehensive Stroke Center, the following must be available 24/7:
- Program medical director
- Acute stroke team
- Dedicated Neuro ICU beds
- On-site neurointensivist
- Access to advanced diagnostics and testing
- Access to an advanced stroke team, including a neurointerventionist, neuroradiologist, neurologist and neurosurgeon
This designation ensures you have access to comprehensive stroke care 24/7. And, because the center is part of Northwestern Medicine, you’ll also have access to the latest treatment options, research and clinical trials.
