Symptoms of Skin Disorders of the Esophagus

Symptoms of skin disorders of the esophagus will vary widely depending on the extent of the condition and the overall health of your immune system. Symptoms often disappear during treatment and reappear when treatment is suspended. They can include:

  • Persistent sore throat
  • Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)
  • Odynophagia (pain with swallowing)
  • A feeling that food is stuck in the throat
  • Esophageal stricture (narrowing)

During endoscopy, the following symptoms may be apparent:

  • White-covered lesions
  • Shiny, flat papules
  • Small erosions
  • Pseudomembranes (a tough outer layer of tissue found on the surface of inflamed mucous membranes)
