Diagnosis and Treatment of Adrenal Cancer

Tests and procedures used to diagnose adrenal cancer depend on the symptoms.

Three types of standard treatment typically are used:

• Surgery to remove the adrenal gland and/or nearby lymph nodes and other tissue
• Radiation therapy
• Chemotherapy

New types of treatment are being evaluated in clinical trials. Learn about the trials offered by the Department of Urology at Feinberg School of Medicine and the Lurie Cancer Center.

• Immunotherapy uses the patient’s immune system to fight cancer. Substances made by the body or made in a laboratory are used to boost, direct or restore the body's natural defenses against cancer.
• Targeted therapy is a type of treatment that uses medicine or other substances to identify and attack specific cancer cells without harming healthy cells.
